RCU Adopts Strong Entrepreneurship Approach to Fundraising

The Reformed Church University is set to be an academic institution of repute after adopting a strong entrepreneurship approach to its fundraising and resource mobilisation initiatives with a view to consolidate the quality of education at the University.

The entrepreneurship drive that is being spearheaded by the University has since realised a strong community response on the membership of the Friends of the Reformed Church University (FRECU).

The growth in the membership of the University’s Friends is yet another phenomenal achievement in a series of fundraising initiatives that the institution has adopted in compliance with its projected developmental needs.

In a statement, Reformed Church University Vice Chancellor Professor Wiseman Magwa noted that the membership to the Friends of the Reformed Church University - Founder Member Movement is open to all individuals and organisations who wish to support the development of higher education through the Reformed Church University.

The Vice Chancellor noted that acquiring FRECU badges which are now available at Reformed Church in Zimbabwe congregations through RCU Fundraising Point-persons is a prestigious hallmark to FRECU membership.

“As part of our Building a Legacy campaign, invitations are being made for prospective and existing Friends of the Reformed Church University to develop the University by purchasing FRECU badges whose proceeds shall be used in the development of the University in various areas”, Professor Magwa said.

The FRECU badges have specific categories, development agendas and benefits to individuals and institutions are as follows:

·         Platinum category: Funds contributed by members and organisations in this category shall be used to build an Administration Block at the University main campus. The names of people or institutions that are in the platinum category shall be displayed on a plaque in the Administration Block Boardroom at the main campus. For this immortal benefit, members have to part with USD 1000 once off payment.

·         Gold category: Financial resources raised by members and organisations in this category shall be used to construct a Lecture Block at the University main campus. For this perpetual benefit, members have to make an investment of USD 50 once off payment.

Commenting on the FRECU membership initiative, RCU Council Chairman, Dr. Augustine Mazvuru noted that this initiative shall boost funding for essential areas of the University, “We are building a legacy and contributing to the University’s vision of building a world class centre of excellence in special needs education, theology and community service embedded in Christian values.”

“This exciting business approach to raising funds is very important as the University moves with the times where regulators, the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) in particular, demand high quality standards in all academic and administrative activities of universities across the nation,” Dr. Mazvuru added.

Quality has become one of the most critical factors in determining long-term success and survival of tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe hence, the Reformed Church University has set on a course to continuously improve the quality of its services in order to maintain the credibility of the tertiary institution in the increasingly competitive market place.

The success of the RCU FRECU campaign marks yet another milestone in the University’s quest for academic growth as it consolidates its position as an institution that values quality education rather than masses of students as far as education is concerned. In the same vein, the University shall continuously develop a host of social, economic and technological innovations with the view of improving society.
