RCU Successfully holds Inaugural Graduation Ceremony

The Reformed Church University(RCU) successfully held the inaugural graduation event on the 26th of February 2016. The RCU Chancellor, Reverend Dr. R. Rutoro, conferred degrees to 157 pioneer graduands at a historic ceremony which was held at Morgenster Mission, located 35 km from Masvingo.

The graduands were drawn from the Faculty of Arts, Theology and Religious Studies, Faculty of Education and social Sciences, and Faculty of Commerce.

Speaking at the graduation event, RCU Vice Chancellor Professor Wiseman Magwa chronicled the story of dedication and commitment by the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe whose rich, expansive background in education, stretches for more than a century.

He further outlinedthe RCU journey from inception, highlighting that the University enrolled its first and second intakes in August 2012 and April 2013 respectively.

The pioneer graduands constituted a total of 157 students and 52% of them were women. Only six students had 1st class degrees, with three of them being women.

The graduation which was the first of its kind for the Reformed Church University was an important milestone in RCU’s quest for academic excellence as the University consolidates its position as an institution that values quality education.

RCU’s graduation ceremony was attended by approximately 2000 guests. Amongst the important dignitaries were the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Hounourable, Professor Jonathan Moyo, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Mike Bimha, and politiburo members. There was strong representation from the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe, other universities, teachers colleges, polytechnic colleges, civic organisations, RCU partners, industry and commerce, and graduands’ families.
