The Faculty of Commerce endevours to promote first-class academia in research, teaching and innovation in support of personal growth, industrial development and technological advancement whilst positively impacting local communities, the nation and the region through the provision of self sustenance and problem-solving skills, knowledge and value-adding attitudes. In the process we will develop expert entrepreneurs and managers capable of providing reliable, proactive and excellent services to their clients in a multi-national and multi-cultural work setting.

The faculty of commerce has been committed to the provision of quality and relevant business education since its commencement in 2012 at Morgenster. Degree programmes offered by the faculty prepare students to be captains of commerce and industry capable of contributing to the fast-growing local and global economies. On its inception, the faculty had only the department of Business Management which offered four undergraduate degree programmes and has been touching new heights. Now the faculty has expanded the range of its programmes and boasts of training graduates who are competent in diverse fields of commerce such as: Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Business Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Project management, Entrepreneurship and Public Administration. At post graduate level, the faculty now offers the Masters in Business
Administration and Masters in Public Administration. The programmes are now housed by two departments namely Business Management and Finance, Business Studies and Post Graduate studies.

Department of Business Management

This department focuses on providing teaching and learning process for the BCOM Honors in Logistic and Supply Chain Management, Public Administration, Project Management; and Entrepreneurship and Business Development

The Department of Business Management is anchored on the following strategic objectives:

  • By the end of each semester the department should have provided sufficient knowledge and skills to enable students to sit for semester examinations in their respective study programs.
  • By the end of each semester the department should have examined and assessed students in all the programs provided in the department to ensure satisfactory levels of proficiency.
  • By the end of each semester the teaching and learning process in the department should have promoted student-based heritage-linked research initiatives capable of stimulating innovation, creativity and industrialization in the various study programs offered.
  • By the time students graduate the department should have ensured that in each of the study programs offered, the values of ethical practice, efficiency and effectiveness are engendered in their proficiency, personality and professionalism.
  • By the end of the four year study period in each program offered in the department, the learning and teaching process should have promoted sufficient acquisition of knowledge and skills that are a prerequisite to ensure the learner’s smooth job placement in the industry.
