RCU Shines at the ZUSA Cluster 1 tournament
The Paralympic students from RCU exhibited a remarkable performance across a wide array of disciplines and they won 11 gold, 13 silver and 6 bronze medals. The University’s paralympic athletes showcased their skills in events ranging from the 400m, 100m, and 40m. They also participated in field activities such as discus and javelin throws where they were collecting medals.
In a thrilling match against the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), the goalball men’s team displayed remarkable resilience and determination, ultimately securing a well-deserved bronze medal despite facing a tough 1-0 loss in favor of UZ and a 6-4 loss in favor of Great Zimbabwe (GZ). This resilient performance not only exemplified the team’s competitive spirit but also highlighted their unwavering drive to succeed in the face of adversity. However, the female team defeated UZ and GZ team and got themselves a gold medal, beating all the participants.
“RCU paralympic athletes are our pride. They have been dominating at the ZUSA tournament for years and they keep on shinning” said Sean Jaboon, the SRC President.
RCU pool players showcased impressive strategic finesse and exceptional talent throughout the competition, catching the attention of fans and opponents alike. While the team faced a formidable opponent in the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) during the quarter finals, they demonstrated unwavering determination and resilience in each game leading up to that critical stage. Despite the disappointing loss, the players left a lasting impression with their skillful gameplay and sportsmanship, earning admiration from spectators and a reputation as fierce competitors in the pool community.
“There is a lot these guys can do. Actually I thought they were going to qualify for the finals but I am grateful that they got to the quarter finals and that’s a step.” said Tinashe Matsika SRC Minister of Sports and Entertainment.

The camaraderie and teamwork among the RCU pool players were palpable, creating a strong bond that united them in both victory and defeat, and fostering an environment of mutual support and growth within the team.
