Reformed Church University Hosts the 4th Universities Coaching and Mentoring Awards

MASVINGO – The 4th Universities Coaching and Mentoring Annual Awards Ceremony was successfully hosted by the Reformed Church University Coaching and Mentoring Club under the theme, “Elevating Coaching and Mentorship for Sustainable Student Development.”

The event brought together university leaders, lecturers, students, and distinguished guests from across Zimbabwe to celebrate excellence in coaching, mentorship, and student leadership. Senior management from Reformed Church University attended the ceremony, including Vice Chancellor Professor Dumbu, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Makaye, Registrar Mrs Mapanga, Faculty Deans, the Dean of Students, and members of staff. Their presence underscored the growing importance of mentorship programs in higher education. The awards are organized annually by the International Coaching and Mentoring Foundation (ICMF) in partnership with universities that host ICMF-affiliated coaching and mentoring clubs. The initiative seeks to recognize and celebrate students who make significant contributions to leadership, mentorship, entrepreneurship, sports, poetry, and community development.

The first edition of the awards was hosted by the University of Zimbabwe Coaching and Mentoring Club in 2022, followed by the Better Life Foundation under Midlands State University in 2023 and the National University of Science and Technology Coaching and Mentoring Club in 2025. In addition to the university awards, ICMF also hosts the International Coaching and Mentoring Annual Awards, which honour coaches, mentors and institutions that have excelled in areas such as leadership, business, youth empowerment, wellness, financial coaching, public speaking and team building.

Organisers said the awards support Zimbabwe’s Education 5.0 policy by encouraging innovation, leadership and practical impact among students while creating platforms that recognise young achievers.

The Vice Chancellor emphasised the “3 Ps” in his keynote remarks, Professor Dumbu challenged students to focus on Purpose, People and Potential. He urged students to understand their purpose, value relationships and maximise their abilities for personal and national development.

Among the key lessons highlighted during the ceremony were the importance of mentorship and leadership development among students, the value of collaboration between institutions, and the need to continue creating platforms that celebrate excellence and innovation in universities. The event also provided an opportunity for students from different institutions to network, exchange ideas and build meaningful relationships.

The Guest of honour Dr. Blessing Duri spoke extensively on the importance of humility in leadership and personal growth. Dr. Duri described humility as “the operating system for healthy relationships, good decisions and real growth,” He encouraged students to practise humility by listening to others, accepting mistakes and publicly appreciating those who contribute to their growth and success.
