RCU celebrates its 10th Graduation Ceremony
On a day brimming with hope and celebration, the Reformed Church University (RCU) proudly conferred degrees upon 253 graduates during its landmark 10th graduation ceremony on October 24, 2025. The event was not merely a distribution of certificates, but a powerful affirmation of the transformative power of education, resilience, and inclusive values.
Under the theme of “Building a legacy through Inclusivity,” the ceremony resonated well with the national Education 5.0 philosophy. The graduating class of 2025, comprising 89 men and 164 women including one female graduate living with a disability, stood as a testament to the University’s commitment to empowerment for all.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor painted a picture of a University on the move. He highlighted a 10% increase in graduation rates, a sign of improved student support and dedication. This year, RCU also boldly expanded its academic horizons, launching strategic new programmes designed to meet national needs. These include a BSc Honours in Nursing Science to combat healthcare shortages, BSc Honours in Computer Science and Engineering for the digital economy, and a flagship BSc Honours in Sign Language and Deaf Culture, breaking down communication barriers and championing inclusivity.
The spirit of innovation was a central theme of the celebration. The University cheered for its students and staff who are making a mark on the global stage. A particular point of pride was the Bronze Star Award won at the prestigious Vellore Institute of Technology’s Global Innovators’ Challenge in India for a ‘Smart face mask’ innovation. Furthermore, academics like Dr. Revesai are bringing international acclaim to RCU, having recently won multiple best research awards for his work in interpretable AI and predictive modelling.
“This University has taught me that my potential is limitless,” shared one of the graduands, reflecting the confident spirit of the class. “We are leaving here not just with degrees, but with a mission to serve.”
The Vice Chancellor’s speech also looked to the future, unveiling ambitious plans for a new 1,500 seater modernised library, a symbol of the University’s commitment to academic excellence. This vision is supported by practical, income-generating projects like a commercial poultry farm and a garment factory, which embody the self-reliance pillar of Education 5.0.
In a heartfelt conclusion, the graduands were reminded of their sacred responsibility. “You leave this institution not only with knowledge but with a responsibility to serve, to innovate, and to transform your communities,” the Vice Chancellor stated. Quoting Philippians 4:13, he inspired them to face the future with courage: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
As the new alumni the Class of 2025 turned their tassels and stepped out into the world, they carried with them the values of their alma mater: inclusion, innovation, and impact. Equipped, empowered, and commissioned to make a difference, they are now RCU’s ambassadors, ready to bring light in their workplaces, communities, and the nation.
Congratulations, Makorokoto, Amhlope Class of 2025!!!
