RCU Students bring cheer to Mucheke Old People’s Home
Reformed Church University (RCU) students on Friday 03 October 2025 visited Mucheke Old People’s Home, which is run by the Baptist Church, in a community outreach exercise that dovetailed with the national clean-up campaign held every first Friday of the month.
The initiative, which saw students cleaning, cooking, doing laundry and gardening, was in line with Government’s Vision 2030 and President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. It also spoke to RCU’s niche of building a legacy through inclusivity, ensuring that vulnerable groups such as the elderly are not left out in the drive towards sustainable national development.
The home accommodates 10 elderly people, five females and five males, who warmly welcomed the gesture. Beyond the chores, students took time to interact with the elderly, engaging them on life experiences both past and present, while offering companionship and encouragement.
To cap the visit, the students donated food hampers, a gesture that brought joy to the residents and reinforced the university’s commitment to community service and national development.
